The annual Blueberry Pancake Breakfast is Sunday. And this is the 47th annual, so it’s been around a while. It takes place in front of Casa Colima Restaurant in the Hillsdale neighborhood from 8:30am to noon on Sunday, July 19. “Bring your friends, bring your family, and most importantly—save your appetite!” 6319 SW Capitol Hwy, Portland
A Roadside Attraction has been serving up drinks for 20 years. Andrew Jankowski at Willamette Week wrote about A Roadside Attraction, a “hodgepodge bar” on the corner of SE Yamhill and 12th Avenue. It opened July 22, 2006. They describe Roadside like this:
“A Roadside Attraction, or Roadside to its regulars, is decorated with art and memorabilia from around the world, including paintings, Japanese masks, and antique safari trophies. The outdoor courtyard, centered on conversational fire pits and surrounded by private alcoves, is decorated with paper lanterns and a Chinese dragon head on a Puerto Rican surfboard. License plates that span states and decades cover the patio’s dividing walls. Canadian and Mexican flags adorn a planter of ferns.”

An umami-forward cocktail in Portland. Mark Stock over at The Manual highlighted the Sailing the Seas of Cheese cocktail at Normandie; it’s named after a Primus album. It has Scotch, Manzanilla Sherry, Grand Marnier, black vinegar caramel, and bitters. Judson Winquist developed it. (And along with his wife Amanda, they opened Sunday Sauce on N Killingsworth last fall.) 1005 SE Ankeny Street, Portland
Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers wants to come to Portland. I first saw the news about this on Bill Oakley’s Instagram, but the news has spread to other outlets. KOIN writes, “The Kansas-based chain is looking to open at least 20 new locations in the Portland Metro area and additional locations throughout Oregon, with specific interest in Bend, Salem, and Eugene.” From what I can tell, people are pretty excited about the idea of this franchise coming to the the Beaver State.
They are looking at existing spaces, which probably eliminates any of the old Shari’s, since a drive-thru is likely a feature they want. Portland is not so big on allowing new drive-thrus, so perhaps their arrival will learn more on the “metro” of the Portland metro: Milwaukie, Gresham, Gladstone, Lake Oswego, Sherwood, etc. Locations in progress
The glory of bar signage. ICYMI, July 7 was National Dive Bar Day. Portland has plenty of them (dive bars and “deeper dives” e.g., Glasshouse Tavern), and these bars have some great signs, too. Zack Wallenfang complied a slideshow of some of these signs here in Portland. Check it out. P.S. The New York Times recently wrote about dive bars. Multiple locations
Free pistachio matcha lattes this weekend. Pistakio is popping up at the Portland Syrups Café on Saturday, July 18 from 10am to 2pm. “Come grab a FREE vanilla pistachio matcha, made in house with their butter + our syrup.” Pistako pistachio butter will also be available to taste and to buy, plus you get to meet the people behind this popular local pistachio butter brand. 2025 SE 11th Avenue, Portland

Tusk Turns Ten. And they are having a party on Saturday, August 15 from 8pm to 10:30pm. Tickets are $35. “Your ticket includes a complimentary tasting featuring current and library releases from Pierce Riesling, offering a unique opportunity to explore a decade of Oregon winemaking. Enjoy complimentary bites from the Tusk culinary team while a DJ sets the tone for a lively patio celebration.” Purchase your tickets on Tusk’s Resy page. 2448 E Burnside Street, Portland

Hurry Back Curry has closed. They offered modern Indian food in the Pine Street Market. On Thursday, July 16 they announced, simply, “Permanently Closed.” 126 SW 2nd Avenue, Portland
Updates from Farmhouse Carts. They posted an update on the pod on their Instagram and it’s full of all sorts of interesting tidbits. New cart additions include Family Kitchen Sushi and Momo House. 2415 SE 35th Place, Portland
Jade Cow Creamery opens this weekend at the Flock Food Hall. And their flavors look great: Black Sesame, Coconut Pandan, and Ube Cookies & Cream, just to name a few. Stop by tomorrow, July 18 from 11am to 9pm. They’ll be open those hours, daily going forward. 917 SW Alder Street, Portland
Inssa, a Korean gastropub, opens today. Their soft opening starts tonight, July 17 from 5pm to midnight. On Saturday they’ll be open from 10am to 3pm, then a break, and back open from 5pm to midnight. “We’ll be serving a limited menu featuring some of our signature favorites from our original Chino Hills location, with more menu items coming soon.”
Also to celebrate: Every guest this weekend will receive a free Soju plushie (not edible) and
a free 10Won Cheesey Bread (edible). This location has been home to a number of Korean restaurants over the years. 914 NE Broadway, Portland
Underbar has closed. This is a blow to the LGBTQ+ community in Vancouver. They wrote, “It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we announce the closing of UnderBar. After nearly a decade of memories—including five years as Vancouver’s only LGBTQ+ bar—our doors have officially closed.”
The reason? “The simple, painful truth is that the operating environment for independent bars and restaurants has become brutal.” They cited declining foot traffic, a shift toward less going-out, less drinking of alcohol, and skyrocketing overhead costs. In their parting words, they strongly encourage you to support your local bar, restaurant, and coffee shop. 1701 1/2 Broadway Street, Vancouver
The Summer of Affogato is today. Head to Roseline Coffee at their NE Davis location today from 2pm to 5pm for a collab with Pinolo Gelato. “The Roseline team will be pulling a couple different very special espressos and we’ll be scooping four gelato classics from our sweet Carretino Dei Gelati to make the best affogatos outside of Italy!” Also, matcha-gatos will be available (Mizuba Tea will provide the matcha). You can just get just a small scoop of gelato, too. 321 NE Davis Street, Portland
Kulfi Beaverton is getting closer to opening. They’re in their last week of construction and equipment has been moving in. They hope to announce an opening date soon. 12695 SW Crescent Street #120, Beaverton
Happy hour at Bauman’s on Oak with ten dollar pizza. When I first moved to Portland I remember the glory that was the $5 Margherita pie at a couple of spots in town. That’s long gone now, but in an echo of that you can find $10 pies at Bauman’s On Oak. Plus $10 wings and $5 select ciders. This happens Wednesday through Sunday, 4pm to 5pm.
Also, save the date for Quince Fest there on Sunday, October 18, 2026. 930 SE Oak Street, Portland
Portland stars in “COFFEE the Universal Language.” A production from N+D Media, this series is shown on PBS. Portland is featured in one of the episodes and they are screening it on Saturday, July 25 from 3pm to 5pm at the Clinton Street Theater. Tickets are $10 and you get to see the episode, stay for a Q&A afterward, and enjoy a “complimentary specialty coffee drink provided by Oatly.” You can purchase your tickets on their Partiful page. 2522 SE Clinton Street, Portland
Lucky Duck opened yesterday. This is a new spot in Carlton that they describe as, “equal parts café, home shop, and refined accommodation.” At the cafe there will be coffee (beans from Summon Coffee), pastries (made in-house), and local wine; artisan goods and cookbooks; and there’s a 2-bedroom apartment you can book. More info here.
The Snack Shack is their back patio dining area. They’ll have rotating culinary residencies, and Astral will be their first there. 105 W Main Street, Carlton
Secret Sauna wants to create something cool together. And with other businesses. They were at Replicant/Mudd Works in Montavilla but that residency has ended. Check their Instagram for more info on how you can possibly connect and help plan something awesome. They also encourage you to share the news with other businesses that might be a good fit. Online
D’s Knots is popping up again. This time, head to Fresh Love on the east side on Saturday, July 18 from 11am to 1pm. They’ll have their Fresh Salty Knots, a limited batch of Everything Knots, plus dipping sauces. You can pair them up with one of Fresh Love’s fresh juices or smoothies, but I’m partial to their Iced Yuzu Matcha: “Mizuba organic matcha served over iced Kimino sparkling yuzu soda with freshly squeezed lime juice.” It’s so refreshing! 7434 NE Fremont Street, Portland
First ever drag brunch at Rhinestone is next weekend. The folks at Rhinestone are pretty chuffed about this. It will be hosted by Pluto, and featuring Inanna Miss, Lylac, Kharisma, and Kenzie B. Valentine. Doors open at 11am, show at noon and there will be an all-you-can-eat buffet; first drink included with every ticket. $75 for everything. 2100 SE Clinton Street, Portland
Northport’s new menu dropped this past week. It’s been a while since I’ve mentioned Northport here on Bridgetown Bites and it’s not because I didn’t want to. I was glad that the almighty Al Go Rithum dropped Northport in my Instagram lap so I can now tell you that they have a new summer menu going on.
You can find their list of menus on their website, and here’s the summer dinner menu. So happy to see a black bean burger on the menu, too! 8103 N Denver Avenue, Portland
The Heights at Vista Spring has opened. This is an offshoot from Vista Spring Cafe. You can see the interior on their Instagram page and it’s very pretty, atmospheric, and looks like a great date night spot. They say they offer, “timeless cocktails, elevated bites, and evenings worth lingering over.” Very much a different vibe from the relaxed cafe space next door. They are open Wednesday to Saturday. 2430 SW Vista Avenue, Portland
The Horse Brass Pub celebrated 50 years. They had a bunch of special events all this past week to commemorate this golden anniversary. They also opened The Pony Room across the public breezeway, former home to Belmont Station. According to New School Beer, it “serves as a private event and spillover space open during Horse Brass Anniversary celebrations and U.S. World Cup games.” Read more of their excellent coverage of this auspicious time in Horse Brass Pub history.
Congrats on 50 years, HBP! 4534 SE Belmont Street, Portland

“Champagne wishes and caviar dreams.” That famous quote from the late Robin Leach struck me when I saw this post from Rob Acierto about his new venture in conjunction with Gourmet Boutique. Gourmet Boutique is known for their caviar, and have locations in Taipei, Cape Town, Seoul, and Tokyo, apart from the coming Portland location.
With the mention of Champagne in the post caption, and Ron’s history as wine and beverage director at ōkta in McMinnville, you can bet that wine will be a prominent aspect of what he is creating. He hopes to open in July 2026. We spoke briefly to him and look forward to bringing you more information when the time is right. 151 SW 1st Avenue, Portland
